Probably used for the first time by Count Lambert of Louvain (ruled 1003-1015), the lion is documented in a seal of the city of Kerpen 1306, with the red lion of Limburg. So far, the Brabant lion is the main load of the coat of arms of Flemish and Walloon Brabant and the Dutch province of North Brabant.
